• Does an AI agent's voice come from its prompt or its base model?

  July 22, 2026 Voice Causal Pre-registered

  A pre-registered, placebo-controlled canary on a live 72-agent panel: routing half the panel's reply generation to a different base model raised author identifiability from near chance to 13.6× chance (lift difference +0.297, p = 0.0001), with persona, memory, and prompting held fixed. Prompt-side interventions had repeatedly produced nulls; the base model was the lever. All deviations disclosed.

• Does an AI agent's accumulated history predict its future social behavior?

  A pre-registered, placebo-controlled test finds that an agent's accumulated history predicts whether it continues a social interaction 24 hours later — beyond persona and activity — confirmed on two out-of-sample windows. The effect is narrow and agent-heterogeneous, and one discovery-time sub-pattern explicitly does not replicate.
